Why Astrology is so Powerful

I got to thinking the other day that a lot of my readers may not be into astrology, and yet it is something I post and write about all the time. Most people have a surface awareness of their Sun sign maybe and everyone has "read their horoscope" in the newspaper or the back of a magazine at some point in time. But astrology goes much deeper and it is a truly powerful tool used for centuries to help understand patterns and influences in our lives. Its influence provides insights into personality, relationships, and life events. By examining our birth charts, and the current energy in the sky, we can unlock profound self-awareness and understanding. In this post, I'll explore how astrology shapes our lives, its core concepts, and actionable insights for harnessing its power.

Astrology Insights: A Brief Overview

Astrology is an ancient science that studies celestial bodies' positions and movements and their impact on human affairs. It operates on the belief that the alignment of planets at the moment of our birth influences our behaviors and life paths. Each individual has a unique birth chart that acts as a cosmic map, revealing patterns linked to personality traits, emotions, and life experiences.

This map consists of various elements, including the sun sign, moon sign, and rising sign, each offering distinct insights. For example, your sun sign represents your core self, your identity and how you show up in the world. Your moon sign has to do with your emotional self, our habits and comfort zone and may even have something to say about your relationship with your mother. The rising sign—often referred to as the ascendant—portrays your soul's purpose. The rising sign might not feel authentic until we are older as it can feel tricky to step into as a younger person. Understanding these fundamental parts of yourself can help in deeper self awareness and ultimately aid in making decisions and life plans.

The Role of Planets and Houses in Astrology

Astrology also involves planets, each holding significance in your birth chart. Here are a few, the most personal planets, that represent different energies and motivations:

  • The Sun: Your identity self and how you show up in the world

  • The Moon: Your emotions and subconscious, your habits and comfort zone

  • Mercury: Communication and intellect, how we share and our nervous system

  • Venus: Love, attraction, values, money, artistry

  • Mars: Drive and passions, what we will fight for and how we fight

Each of these planets will "live" in a particular house in your birth chart. The houses are twelve parts of the chart that correspond to various aspects of life, including topics like career, money, family, relationships, and health. The interaction between each planet and houses reveals the dynamics at play in your life. For instance, if your Sun is in your seventh house, relationships and partnerships will be very important to you.

How do we use this information?

Astrology promotes profound self awareness and emotional understanding. The ways we can use this information is limitless. Take your Moon sign for example.

Once you know that your moon sign can reveal your emotional tendencies, it can provide guidance you on how to nurture yourself. If your moon is in a water sign like Cancer or Pisces, you might better understand your deep and profound feeling self with less judgement. If your moon sign is in an air sign, like Gemini or Aquarius, you might be prone to think your feelings rather than feel them. Having that awareness can change your approach to your emotional process.

We can even take things a step further and look at the phase the moon was in when we were born to understand some of our tendencies and needs. Born on the full moon? You may have a life filled with a lot of light in it. This is something I see a lot in the charts of celebrities or other public figures. Born under the balsamic moon (right before the new moon, the darkest part of the cycle) you might need a lot of alone time and have a very internal process to things.

The house the moon is in will also add a layer to the understanding of your emotional self as well as the other planets the moon is in relationship with. Is your moon in the third house of communication? You might find relief from overwhelming emotions through writing or journaling. Is your moon in the sixth house of health and daily life? You might have a nervous stomach or be sensitive to illness and stress.

This is complex yes, but the wisdom that comes from this understanding is so useful and deeply healing.

Astrology and Relationships

One of the most common things people ask me about in readings is relationships: when we will I meet someone, why do I keep meeting the wrong people, when is a good day to get married, what is happening in my relationships now?

Astrology can tell us a lot about our relationships. We can learn how we might best partner, who is ideal for you, what sorts of people might be better for you. We can also look at how the birth charts of our partners line up with ours. This is called synastry— and can show us how partners energies blend together; what attracts us and where we might also find conflict. This analysis can offer profound insights into how individuals interact.

For example, if one partner’s Mars aligns with the other’s Venus, it can spark a passionate attraction, often leading to a strong romantic connection. However, if one person’s Saturn conflicts with another’s Mercury, communication issues may arise, highlighting challenges the couple must work through.

Using astrology in relationships can foster empathy and understanding. It helps partners appreciate each other's perspectives and behaviors. By understanding each other's astrological influences, couples can improve communication and foster a healthy environment. I offer a reading that looks at all of this but also includes Human Design for a complete picture of the relationship.
