She Talks to Angels

I had a little road trip today for work which required me to be out of the house before 7 a.m. I am 1000% not a morning person and my husband calls me a dawdler. I prefer the word saunter to dawdler, but given a choice, I do like to take my time. I did all my usual morning stuff, except writing in my journal but I did take a minute to set an intention for the day. I asked for protection and guidance and also let Spirit know I was open to any and all messages that might show up.

Needless to say, I was a little behind schedule but I managed to get in the car by 6:55. Much to my delight, Waze said I would arrive pretty much on time. Thank you early morning traffic for being light.

It was a super foggy drive for the first hour or so as the snow was evaporating on the country roads. Just before I got on the highway, I thought gas and a bathroom would be a good option. I found a gas station but decided I could do better than this bathroom. It was the old school kind where the bathroom was outside and required a key. This seemed like way more time that I had plus also seemed gross.

“I can do better than this,” I told myself. I pumped my gas and moved on.

Within a block, I saw a sign for a gluten free bakery. I was a little surprised because this community was far from a booming metropolis, but I decided to check it out. I pulled up and saw they were open Thursday to Saturday only and that they opened at 8 a.m. It was 8:02 a.m. on a Thursday! What luck!

I went inside and was delighted at the sights and smells. Two very kind women were working in the kitchen and they asked what I was looking for. I said that I had been looking for a bathroom but that I figured a gluten free treat would suffice instead. They pointed to a door and said, “That is the bathroom. Go do your thing and then come back, we will take care of you.”

This felt like heaven to me. Being bossed around and taken care of by perfect strangers was just what I needed at that moment.

As instructed, I did my thing and came back out. I was going to get a tea for the road and thought I must get something to take with me. You see, for years, my food allergies and extreme reactions would have prevented me from eating anything at this bakery, even with it being gluten free. Traveling for work was particularly challenging because I would have to go grocery shopping once I arrived, find hotel rooms with kitchenettes and essentially, I had to do a lot of preplanning and ended up missing out on a lot. It was stifling and limiting and I did not enjoy it. Even this morning before I left, I packed a bag with some fruit and nuts and a protein bar just in case I was unable to find anything along the way.

I ordered my tea and the woman said, “When was the last time you had a warm chocolate chip cookie right from the oven?” I didn’t even have to think for a second before replying, “I literally have no idea!” I was dismayed though because I knew I was already pushing it on time and I might not be able to wait for my cookie. She opened the oven and said, “Well my dear, you have impeccable timing. These are ready now.”

Spotted on the counter near the register

I was tickled and I gladly accepted my warm chocolate chip cookie right from the oven.

This entire visit in the bakery took about 5 minutes. There was definitely a Michael Landon from “Highway to Heaven” vibe to all of this. I felt loved, supported and cared for. Things aligned for me this morning in spite of my sauntering. I couldn’t help but think if I had left on time initially, this little bakery wouldn’t have been open when I came by.

I am open to any and all messages that might show up.

You have impeccable timing… (said no one, besides this lady, ever.)

Do your thing and we will take care of you.

I was so happy after I left the bakery with my decaf green tea and my warm chocolate chip cookie. This cookie fed not only my belly, but my soul.

For the record, I made it in plenty of time for my meeting and my cookie was divine.

PS I have said it before, and I will say it again, we are always exactly where we need to be.

This is the place in case you ever find yourself in need of a warm cookie or some love. https://www.facebook.com/suzeasglutenfree/
